Cyber Insurance - Dr. Ulrik Franke (Swedish Institute of Computer Science)

This talk will introduce the concept of cyber insurance, based on an investigation of the cyber insurance market in Sweden. The talk will describe the coverages offered, the underwriting process used, and typical annual premiums and indemnity limits. Some more conceptual reflections will also be offered, explaining why cyber insurance is not merely an instrument of risk transfer, but also contains aspects of avoidance and mitigation. Based on the investigation, market segmentation, pricing, business continuity, and asymmetry of information will be discussed, and some interesting directions for future work will be suggested.

Dr. Ulrik Franke is a senior researcher at the Swedish Institute of Computer Science (RISE SICS). He received his PhD in 2012 from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. His research interests include cyber security, IT service availability, enterprise architecture, and decision-making. He has recently published in journals such as Computers & Security, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, and IEEE Transactions on Reliability.
